Artie’s Eclipse hit the ground running from the inside gate and wasn’t headed for her new owners in the MC Equine Surfaces Hcp (1000m) at Ascot on Tuesday.
The Yarradale Stud-bred 4yo mare has taken to her new surroundings with trainer Mitch Pateman and was a convincing half-length winner over odds-on favourite Flying Swagman (Bivouac).
Artie’s Eclipse (Flying Artie) had won a Bunbury maiden in 14 starts prior to changing hands for $2,250 at the Inglis October (Early) Online Sale. She was purchased by a syndicate managed by Terry Leighton and banked $16,440 on Melbourne Cup Day plus some extra cash after firming from $17 into $12.
“I’ve only had her for four weeks and she settled in straightaway,” Pateman revealed. “I was underbidder for her as a yearling so we’ve come full circle. We also have her older half-brother Last Stylebender (Harry Angel) and they’re both livewires.
“She can be a handful but the shades helped today. She’s been working super and just kept running for Holly (Watson).”
Saturia (War Chant) has delivered a foal every year since retiring to Yarradale. She was bred by Geisel Park and had won on debut at Belmont for trainer Paul Jordan. Her 3yo filly Chanturia (Playing God) is with Jim Taylor and her 2yo colt Oh My Lord (Playing God) is with Sean & Jake Casey.
Her yearling is a Gingerbread Man filly and she foaled a Shooting To Win colt a fortnight ago.
Dixie Doo broke through when getting out to a mile for the first time in the Consilium Corporate Hcp (1600m) on Cup Day. The 3yo daughter of Yarradale sire Shooting To Win took the field up to front-runner Astonisher (Mahuta) and, despite shifting ground in the straight, had too many guns for short-priced fancy Bourbonontherocks (Awesome Rock).
Sean Casey has earmarked the upcoming 3yo filly features starting with the G3 Champion Fillies (1600m) at Ascot on November 14. “She’s a work in progress and was unlucky last time when she ran about. The more she learns the better and there’s a lot of upside to this filly.”
Dixie Doo is the second foal from Templates (Teofilo) following this year’s LR John Roberts Stakes (1800m) winner Aberdeen Flyer (Astern). The former Darley mare is owned by Willaview Park and her 2yo Sprint For Glory (Splintex) won a Belmont barrier trial in September for the Caseys and owner Maureen Daly.
I Love Ya Money signed off a very successful month for Yarradale sire Gingerbread Man in the Wittens Irrigation Hcp (2200m) on Saturday. He got the money after motoring home off a sedate pace to defeat older mares Dark Looks (My Admiration) and Dandy's Gem (Maschino).
I Love Ya Money is trained by Mitch Pateman for Justin Warwick and was backing up for the third Saturday in a row. “I wasn’t confident at any stage but that turn of foot got him out of trouble,” Pateman admitted. “He pulls up super every week and holds his condition.
Pateman is also considering a fourth seven-day turnaround and will nominate him again for the Apprentices' Cup (2200m) at Ascot this Saturday.
Beatty posted an October highlight for Gingerbread Man in the LR Belgravia Stakes (1200m) and that sent the very promising 3yo to the top of markets for the G2 WA Guineas (1600m) on November 21. He is prepared by the Caseys for Wally Daly and has been nominated for the LR Fairetha Stakes (1400m) this Saturday.
Yarradale stands Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) alongside Shooting To Win (Northern Meteor) and they’re both priced at $5,500 (inc GST) this season. For all enquiries contact Davy Hanratty on 0429 336 904.
