Yarradale Stud struck again with a running double at Belmont on Wednesday to lift its tally to NINE WINNERS in the last week.

Yesterday's winning Yarradale-bred graduates Star Supreme (Playing God) and Great Edition (War Chant) are stablemates at Neville Parnham’s Ascot stable and they both have considerable upside according to the 14-time WA Premier Trainer.

Star Supreme (4m Playing God - Even Astar by Kendel Star) went out a $2.70 favourite when racing first-up since April in the Lawn Pride Australia Hcp (1200m).  She was given the run of the race behind a quick clip set by Define Beautiful (Ducimus) and only required a couple of reminders to put the race to bed.

“This was only her fourth race start and there’s never been any doubts about her ability,” Parnham revealed.  “We’ve  taken our time and that patience is paying dividends  There were problems with her feet and just general growing pains but nothing too serious."

Star Supreme races for a stable syndicate that includes Yarradale and long-standing clients Santo Guagliardo, Bob Pearson and Paul Cooke.  “I’ve trained a lot of winners for Ron and Lyn Sayers at Yarradale over the years,” Parnham added.  “I couldn’t count them really and hopefully we’ve got another good one here.”

Yarradale is a significant shareholder in Playing God and the grey mare’s dam Even Astar won the 2010 LR Belgravia Stakes and LR Burgess Queen Stakes before embarking on a successful stud career at Yarradale.

Even Astar has a new-season 2yo colt by Playing God and her first foal Express Time (War Chant) also has a new-season yearling filly by the Darling View Champion.  Express Time won 11 races and earned minor black-type while banking $362,000 for a Parnham stable syndicate.

Great Edition wasn’t fancied at $15 in the MCA Polytrack Hcp (1200m) but someone forgot to tell the horse because he refused to lie down in a three-way photo finish with Saturday Sesh (Sessions) and Battle Commander (Rommel).

“His last three runs have been excellent and he keeps going out at good odds,” Parnham said.  “Lucky (Ramoly) is a very strong rider and he gets the best out of them.  He didn’t panic when caught in the cheap seats early.  I told him to stay in that lane and it was a perfect ride.”

Great Edition (4g War Chant - Edition by Duporth) is only half-way in repaying a $150,000 price-tag from Yarradale at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions but he’s well on the way for a partnership comprising Neville & Carol Parnham, John Del Basso, Bill Biggs and Yarradale.

Edition has a 2yo filly and yearling colt by Playing God.  She’s a direct descendant of blue-hen Miss Holborn (Holborn) and among her many black-type relations is Yarradale’s G2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) winner Born Priceless (Pricelessly).

Yarradale’s winning run had kicked off last Wednesday with Eleventh Hour (War Chant) at Strathalbyn and Galaxy Affair (Merchant Navy) at Pinjarra.  The latter is from Yarradale-bred mare Wild Ava (High Chaparral).

Country God (Playing God) was the catalyst for a treble at Belmont on Saturday.  The Yarradale-bred graduate was named TBWA Winner of the Week and he looks another rising star for Neville Parnham.

Triple The Chant completed a hat-trick for former Yarradale sire War Chant (USA) and Gingerbread Man filled out a rare black-type trifecta when Phanta defeated, Fluro Neuro and Ginger Baker in the LR Idyllic Prince Stakes (1200m).

They were back in business at Kalgoorlie on Sunday with a double courtesy of Ellovaman (Gingerbread Man) and Please Mizter (War Chant).

Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) and Shooting To Win (Northern Meteor) will both stand for a fee of $5,500 (inc GST) at Yarradale Stud this season.   For all enquiries contact Davy Hanratty (0429 336 904).

Hoofnote:  Gingerbread Man’s trifecta in the LR Idyllic Prince Stakes (1200m) had the backroom boys searching for the last time a stallion filled out the placings in a black-type event in Perth.

They did find one going back 40 years to when Heytesbury Stud champion Haulpak (Dignitas) sired Family Pak, Haulpress and Pirogue to finish 1-2-3 in the LR Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Ascot.

Family Pak (2f Haulpak - Dutonian by Charltonian) won by a half-length from the favourite Haulpress (2f Haulpak - Impressio by Privy Seal) with another length to Pirogue (2f Haulpak - Classic Sail by Royal Yacht) in third place.

That was on 9 November 1985 when the rest of Australia took a back-seat to the Melbourne Cup carnival.  It was the final day at Flemington and the first three had been highlighted by Handy Proverb (VRC Derby), What A Nuisance (Melbourne Cup) and My Tristram's Belle (VRC Oaks).

Haulpak got one back on the fourth day at Flemington a year later when Chanteclair won the G1 Ampol Stakes (1600m) which is now known as the Champions Mile.
