War Chant (USA) 3yo filly Mangifera added her name to a very successful Westspeed-winning family with an ears-pricked victory in the TABtouch Maiden (1200m) at Pinjarra on Wednesday.
It was also the catalyst of a winning week for Forest View Farm owner-breeders Ben and Jo Duncan highlighted by Sixinch Heels (Nicconi) going four-on-end in the Dave Mullen Wines Hcp (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday. Sixinch Heels was a TBWA Winner of the Week after a nailing her maiden at Pinjarra on March 6.
Yarradale Stud’s former Group 1 racehorse and sire War Chant (Danzig) got her from Forest View mare Kiss The Breeze (Star Witness) who won the 2017 Initial Plate (1000m) at Belmont from future Group 1 galloper Platoon (Playing God).
Mangifera was resuming after a summer prep when she was a Pinjarra runner-up twice to subsequent Ascot winner Promising (Pierata) on Boxing Day and LR Challenge Stakes (1500m) winner Deel Her In (Dundeel) in January.
After being backed into an odds-on favourite, Mangifera settled into a rhythm behind Can’t Catch Me (Gingerbread Man) who broke up the field with quick sectionals in front. She responded and overhauled the leader for an easy victory over Social Affair (A Lot) and Karnup Queen (Lucky Street) for trainer Rob Gulberti and his wife and Rene.
“Wow! ‘Mango’ was ridden a gem first-up by Lucy Fiore,” Forest View posted. “Thanks Gully and Rene for all the work you’ve done with our first foal from Kiss the Breeze.”
Based at Karnup, the Desert Glow Lodge couple were just as pleased to get Mangifera’s maiden out of the way. “There were smiles all round at Pinjarra for the first win by ‘Mango’. We’re stoked to get the job done for Ben and Jo and it was a top ride by Lucy.”
The most recent foals out of Kiss The Breeze are a yearling filly by Blue Point (Ire) and a colt on the ground by Splintex. Second-dam Paris Heart (Seignorial) is a half-sister to Paris Petard (G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes, LR Belgravia Stakes, LR Gimcrack Stakes).
