Playing God, Yarradale Stud and Pearce Racing topped the yearling and weanling leader-boards at the Magic Millions Perth Winter Sale on Sunday.
A Playing God – Oriel (Oratorio) full-sister to Group 1 galloper Platoon was snapped up by Ben and Dan Pearce for $90,000 from Yarradale Stud. Offered as Lot 8, she was one of 34 yearling that grossed $554,500 at a 74% clearance rate in the Swan Valley.
“She’s a lovely, correct type and was the standout so we were very pleased to acquire her,” Pearce Racing posted on Facebook. “Playing God yearlings have averaged almost $130,000 this year and she represents good value for her pedigree!”
The renowned Playing God – Oratorio cross successfully commenced Saturday’s Strickland Stakes meeting with 2yo filly Playin'it Sweet. She is one of 37 winners to carry that cross at an 84% strike-rate.
Next-best on the Yearling Sale leader-board was the Playing God - Fiftyshadesofgrey (Written Tycoon) colt bought by Pearce Racing for $65,000. He was offered as Lot 48 by Westbury Park and the Karnup-based brothers liked his stature straight away.
“He’s a ripping type by star stallion Playing God from a mare who won $286,000 in Sydney. He’s physically impressive and moves beautifully.”
A Playing God filly from Yarradale topped the Weanling section of Sunday’s Thoroughbred Sale with a $30,000 bid from Westbury Park’s Phil Ibbotson. Her dam Raise a Smile (Excites) was a Belmont winner for Durrant Racing and her first foal Dublin Red (War Chant) has won three races for a syndicate managed by Justin Warwick.
