A $70,000 Hard Spun filly from Group 2 winner Halibery topped the Yarradale Stud yearling sale at Gidgegannup on Sunday.

Trainer Lindsey Smith bought the sale topper who is due for a pedigree update.  Her older half-brother Award Of Merit (Medaglia D'Oro) is trained by Tony McEvoy and he ready to debut after finishing second in a Morphettville barrier trial last Monday.

Yarradale Stud owner Ron Sayers purchased Halibery in foal to Hard Spun at the 2012 Magic Millions National Sale.  The Red Ransom mare had won a G2 Schillaci Stakes and was runner-up in a G1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

Halibery foaled a filly by Yarradale sire War Chant last year and was then bred back to the Stud’s new shuttler Frost Giant.

Next best on the leader-board at $65,000 were a pair of Ad Valorem yearlings.  The colt from Long Walk is a full-brother to Sydney Group 3 winner Uate and he sold to Roy Rogers.

The Ad Valorem - Lady Lightning filly is from a USA bred half-sister to G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Stevie Wonderboy and she will be trained by Paul Jordan.

A War Chant – Shan Dian (Rory’s Jester) filly also made $65,000 to the bid of Vern Brockman.  Her dam won in Melbourne and Adelaide and she is a half-sister to Grand Nirvana who has landed five Group 3 sprints in Perth.

Yarradale sold 28 lots at an average of $33,535 and the clearance rate was 85%.
