War Chant (USA) has climbed into third spot on the Australian first-season sires’ table after his first-starter Chantski spreadeagled her rivals at Ascot on Saturday.

The Dion Luciani trained filly is one of the most impressive juveniles seen out this season and appears a readymade prospect for the $250,000 Perth Magic Millions Classic on February 14.

Chantski (2f War Chant – Endesa by Marauding) won as she pleased by more than three lengths in the Westspeed 2YO Plate (1000m).  “Her trial win was as good as I’ve seen but we weren’t overly confident because of the awkward draw and all the unexposed form,” Luciani said.  “She has brilliant point-to-point speed and I’m sure there are better things to come.”

War Chant is now third on the Australian freshman premiership behind Beneteau and Hinchinbrook with earnings of $155,150.

Yarradale Stud owner Ron Sayers stands War Chant and he kept a share in Chantski after she sold to Cliff Nock and Simon York for $60,000 at the 2014 Perth Magic Millions.  Her older half-brother Nediym’s Ruler was runner-up to Time To Climb in the 2010 Magic Millions Classic.

Their dam Endesa has yearling colt by Scandal Keeper, a weanling filly Frost Giant and she is back in foal to Patronize.

War Chant’s first Sunspeed yearlings averaged a record-breaking $97,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions.  His first winner among those graduates arrived on Super Saturday when Chanzig scored on debut for trainer Ben Pearce.

Three Chimneys Farm shuttled War Chant to Yarradale for three seasons before Sayers bought him outright last year.  He has sired 33 Kentucky bred stakes winners – the most recent being St Borealis in the LR Tiara Stakes at Gulfstream Park last month.

War Chant has 30 yearlings from his second southern crop catalogued for the Perth Magic Millions on February 17 and 18.
