Yarradale Stud shuttler Frost Giant produced a flying finish to the year with another impressive maiden winner at Aqueduct on New Year’s Eve.

Frost Jordan (2c Frost Giant - She Might Call by Family Calling) rallied late to win a $60,000 sprint over 1200 metres in New York.  He started an odds-on favourite after just missing on debut last month.

The chestnut colt is from a half-sister to stakes winners Apieceoftheaction (Wander Kind) and You've Got Action (Son of Briartic).  He was a $60,000 buy for Sunrise Stables owner Andrew Cohen at the Ocala 2YO Sale in April.

Frost Giant was a record-breaking first-season sire in New York last year and Frost Jordan put the finishing touches to another title on Tuesday.  He was a runaway winner of the second-season premiership with 16 winners of 27 races and $1.68 million.

His three year-olds won 7 black-type races in 2013.  The latest of them was Comandante who completed a hat-trick in the LR Alex Robb Stakes (1700m) at Aqueduct on Saturday.  The Todd Pletcher trained colt had won the LR Thunder Rumble Stakes (1400m) last month.

Comandante (3g Frost Giant - Slew Motion by Slew Gin Fizz) took control from the start and pulled away from his rivals in the stretch to score by more than four lengths.  "My horse is in good form and he broke two lengths in front,” jockey Cornelio Velasquez said.  “He was never under any pressure and had plenty left at the end."

Frost Giant covered 73 mares in his first southern book at Yarradale Stud in 2013.  They included the dams of stakes winners Petrol Power, Brockman’s Lass, Choice Bro, Mr Vadim, Cation and Ready To Rip.

A Group 1 winning son of Giant’s Causeway, Frost Giant shuttles from Keane Stud at Amenia in upstate New York.
