City Place (USA) marked his pending move to Yarradale Stud with a Group 3 win by La Tia at Woodbine on Saturday.

Earlier this week, Yarradale announced City Place will commence coving his first Sunspeed mares in September after a successful start at stud in Florida.

La Tia (5m City Place - La Adelita by Sky Classic) is one of 8 stakes winners by City Place who boasts an 82% winning strike-rate in North America.  She wired the G3 Ontario Matron Stakes (1700m) by more than 6 lengths on Saturday and has now won 8 of her 19 starts for $620,655.

The Sal Hernandez homebred made every pole a winning one under Justin Stein to capture the fillies and mares feature in Canada.  "She was really relaxed in the warm-up,” Stein said. “She’s one of those horses that wants to go about her business and get going.”

Stein had not ridden La Tia since she was a two year-old in the 2012 La Lorgnette Stakes at Woodbine.  “She led that day, too but then bounced off the fence in the straight.  Four horses went past her but then she took off like a quarter horse and won easily."

La Tia also claimed the Purple Violet Stakes off her maiden win as a juvenile.  Her subsequent black-type victories include the G3 Arlington Oaks and G3 Arlington Matron Stakes.

City Place is a son of champion sire Storm Cat and Group 1 winning champion Glitter Woman.  He will stand for an $8,800 (inc gst) fee at Yarradale Stud this year.
