Group 1 winning mare La Tia has been retired and will be covered by top sire Candy Ride at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky.

La Tia is a daughter of City Place (USA) who covered his first southern book at Yarradale Stud last year.  The six year-old mare won 8 stakes races in 24 starts and over $1 million in prizemoney for owner-breeder Salvador Hernandez.

"She’s in top shape and could race another season but Salvador would like to breed her,” trainer Armando De La Cerda said.  “There was an offer from Japan but it fell through.

“I would love to run her again in the (G3) Churchill Downs Distaff Turf Mile on Kentucky Derby Day.  But she has nothing to prove and will make a great broodmare."

La Tia's flashy front-running style took her all the way to a Group 1 victory on turf in the Matriarch Stakes (1600m) at Del Mar last November.  She bowed out with a game second in the G2 Buena Vista Stakes at Santa Anita on February 16.

"She is the best horse I've ever been around," De La Cerda said.  "So fast and sound and she gave 100% every time.”
