Chantski has has made a late bid for Champion WA 2YO Filly honours with her fourth victory of the season at Belmont.

The daughter of Yarradale Stud sire War Chant was a convincing winner of the Westspeed 2YO Plate (1000m) on Saturday from Scales Of Justice (Not A Single Doubt) and Loopy's Ladies (War Chant).

“She was flying about in the paddock so we brought her back into work,” trainer Dion Luciani said.  “There was a spot of bother when the pace slackened but she’s got a lovely turn of foot and finished the race off very well.  We will give her another run over 1200 metres in a fortnight and then come back for the fillies races at the summer carnival.”

Chantski (2f War Chant – Endesa by Marauding) won 4 of her 6 starts this season topped by the G3 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) at Ascot in March.  She was runner-up in the LR Supremacy Stakes and, in her only other loss, was run over by top colt Lucky Street in the Perth Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Owners Cliff Nock and Simon York paid $60,000 for the filly at the 2014 Perth Magic Millions.   Yarradale owner Ron Sayers kept a share in the filly and he also sold her half-brother by Scandal Keeper for $57,500 at the Yarradale yearling sale in May.

Chantski will vie with Showy Chloe (G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes) for the WA 2YO Filly title after beating the Alfred Nobel filly home in both of their encounters.
