Trainer John Zielke still has Group 1 plans for Make My Own Luck even though she was decked at Doomben on Saturday.

Starting a short-priced favourite first-up in the Kingsford-Smith Cup Day Hcp (1200m), she was making ground from the rear when an opening closed abruptly at the furlong.

The Bradbury’s Luck filly lost her rightful running and was eased up by Luke Dittman.

Offending apprentice Geoffrey Goold was outed on a careless riding charge but Zielke was more concerned about Make My Own Luck when she pulled up lame.  A veterinary clearance will be required prior to her next start.

“Incredible.  She was just winding up before being poleaxed,” he said.  “She was a certainty beaten.”

Zielke rates Make My Own Luck a superior 2yo to stablemate Bold Kingston who won earlier in the day at Doomben.  “He’s a nice horse but hasn’t gone to the next level like Make My Own Luck.  She beats him every time they gallop."

Connections have pin-pointed the G2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on May 27 and G1 J J Atkins Stakes (1600m) on June 10 and are hoping she will recover in time after the setback.

“Make Mine Own Luck is a worthy filly for the winter carnival,” Zielke predicted last week.  “She’s a backmarker and goes to sleep in her races.  I’ve got no doubt she will run a mile.”

Make My Own Luck is by Yarradale Stud sire Bradbury’s Luck and cost owner Evan Hartly $40,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions March Sale.  Her dam Dots And Spots (Piccolo) is an unraced daughter of speed-machine Ossie Cossie (19 wins to 1200m).

Bradbury’s Luck (Redoute’s Choice) will stand for a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee this year.
