Yarradale Stud stallion Gingerbread Man is Western Australia’s Champion 2YO and First-season sire for 2016-17.

It’s the first time a Sunspeed freshman has annexed both titles since Heytesbury Stud resident Saxon doubled up in 2010-11.  Yarradale sire War Chant (USA) claimed the WA First-season title in 2014-15.

Gingerbread Man won the 2YO premiership with earnings of $365,925 from Rogano ($344,900).  He was a dominant First-season champion ahead of former Yarradale Stud sire Frost Giant ($47,537).

The Group 1 son of Shamardal was the first freshman to move off the mark in Australia this season when Achernar Star won the Young Members Plate (1000m) at Belmont on October 1.

He struck again on Xmas Eve courtesy of Very Angry Gal in the Mumm Champagne Plate (1000m) at Ascot.

Gingerbread Man’s promising start at stud was reflected at the Perth Magic Millions in February when 9 of his lots averaged $44,944.  Top-price was the $170,000 half-brother to Silent Sedition purchased by Caulfield trainer Andrew Noblet in partnership with Aqua Trained Thoroughbreds.

Gingerbread Man will stand for a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee at Yarradale this year.
