Yarradale Stud struck for the second time in next to no time when Wubin Gold won the Swan Draught Hcp (1200m) at Bunbury on Saturday.

Wubin Gold (4m Shooting To Win - War Of Whispers by War Chant) was bred by Yarradale in partnership with Dawson Stud and was a $30,000 graduate from the 2022 Perth Magic Millions.  Her record now reads 6 wins in 14 starts with earnings over $310,000 for a stable syndicate managed by trainer Colin Webster.

Yarradale owner Lyn Sayers kept a share and her syndicate partners would have been on good terms in running even though the consistent mare was posted wide in the back-half of the field.  Stewards reported she was slow to begin and stable jockey Troy Turner was content to keep her travelling towards the outside strip on the corner.

It was the go-to lane on the Heavy 9 circuit and Wubin Gold finished over the top of Sunny Honey (Patronize) to prevail by three-quarters of a length.  “She doesn’t like travelling between horses and I could see she was in a beautiful rhythm,” Webster said.  “Her favourite distance is 1200m and I was always confident she would be in the finish.”

Turner was equally impressed with Wubin Gold.  “She appreciated the conditions and was on-song today.  She kicked and it worked out nicely.  She races like she wants 1400m but, with the right tempo, I think 1200m is her go.”

When queried about graduating to black-type company, Turner believes she has the class to make that grade during the summer carnival.  Bearing in mind those post-race comments, a possible target could be the LR Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) at Ascot on November 15.

Turner won the 2024 Jungle Mist Classic on Baby Paris (Playing God) while Yarradale had been successful with its homebred filly Miss Frost (Frost Giant) at the 2020 summer carnival.

Wubin Gold is an older half-sister to Silent Amarda who scored a breakthrough victory in the Pro Con Australia Maiden (1100m) at Northam a fortnight ago.  The 3yo son of former Coolmore Stud shuttler Merchant Navy (Fastnet Rock) benefited from a perfect ride by Willie Pike to score narrowly from Peter Gunn (Shooting To Win).

Their dam War Of Whispers (War Chant) is a daughter of Dawson Stud blue-hen Most Secret (Bletchley Park) and was a Pinjarra 3yo maiden winner on Boxing Day in 2015.  She’s a younger half-sister to Covertly (G1 Railway Stakes), Crack The Code (G3 Kevin Hayes Stakes), So Secret (G3 Colonel Reeves Stakes) and Secret Link (LR December Stakes).

Word out of Gidgegannup suggests the Playing God - War Of Whispers colt will be one of the highlights out of the Yarradale consignment to the Perth Magic Millions in February 2026.
